Thing 1 & Thing 2′s Excellent Adventure

The Plan

Thing 1 and Thing 2 are bored. They were in Hollywood in February and saw some fantastic sites.

But they’re now stuck in Calgary, Alberta. They crave adventure and they’re about to get it. Yes, they’re embarking on an around-the-world tour (traveling by mail), and I’d love for you to host them for a week.

How To Become a Scheduled Stop on the Itinerary

If you want to partake in Thing 1 & Thing 2′s Excellent Adventure, just let me know in the comments below that you’re interested. Don’t include your address, though; I’ll contact you and get that via email so no one other than me can hunt you down.

Host Guidelines

  • Once you get Thing 1 and Thing 2 in the mail, they are yours for a week.
  • There are only three requirements:
    1. Take a a few photos and send them to me at ironicmom(at)gmail(d0t)com so I can include them in a photo gallery. Feel free to be creative and unorthodox with your photos. Thing 1 and Thing 2 have been headfirst in the snow before and have yet to complain. They’ve also been in a washing machine, which explains their hair style. I’d give you suggestions for photos, but I know you can be more creative than me.
    2. Blog about it. I will give you some linky love, don’t you worry.
    3. At the end of your week, stuff Thing 1 and Thing 2 into a padded cell envelope, address it with the contact details I give you, and send it via regular mail.
  • If you want to do more (video them, compose bad poetry about them, take them to feed the alligators), go wild.

My Role

Besides sipping margaritas on a nice patio somewhere, I will keep my readers informed about Thing 1 and Thing 2′s Excellent Adventure through a photo gallery and an interactive map. I will also provide some linky love as a thanks, eh?

The Send-Off

Now, what are you waiting for? Comment below and tell me you’re interested in being part of Thing 1 and Thing 2′s Excellent Adventure.

  2. Too cute. I’ve always figured our offspring would get into some serious trouble (or, fun, depending on who’s chaperoning) if they ever got together.

We’re in! And we aren’t even vegetarians over here. I don’t know why I felt compelled to divulge that, but there you go.

  3. This is going to be legen-wait for it-dary! I’m in!

  4. me me, please! imagine – thing one and thing two in the alps!

  5. Hey, Leanne! We’re going on a whitewater rafting vacation (West VA) at the end of July, and would love to have Thing 1 and Thing 2 come along. There will also be horseback riding, hot tubbing, and zip lines, but we’d leave them back at the cabin for paintball, LOL. Woo-hoo! Your Things sure wouldn’t be bored!

  6. I can actually take them to feed alligators as I live in Gainesville, FL, home to the Florida Gators (and Tim Tebow *le sigh*). But of course, we have other things beside live gators wandering around Univ. of FL campus – a fabulous state theater in a former 100 year old courthouse.

We have a giant sinkhole too that they can visit. I promise not to drop them down in it but keep them safely sitting on the railing.

There is a knit along that they can participate in and a weekly hula hooping event.

Gosh, there are tons of things to do!

  7. Janice Shirtliffe

I think they should come to Manitoba….think of all the things they could do: Golf at Scotswood Links; go RVing; sit on the deck and drink beer; watch grass grow;…………..the list is endless or endlist!

  8. color ME in, sistah… thats f-ing AWESOME! supposed to go to ponte vedra 22nd of July, would love it if they could come. if we don’t go, i’m sure i can get them into SOME trouble in the ATL. ;-)

  9. We would love to have Thing 1 and Thing 2 visit us in Atlanta! Oh, the places we go! They would certainly have a wonderful time! They might even learn some ASL while they visit!

  10. When the time is right, you know they’ll be heading to the Burgh.

  11. We need a Thing 1 and Thing 2 to come visit in Joplin, MO!! I can’t focus on work now with this exciting upcoming visit!!

  12. Ooh, we could totally find some fun stuff to do with Thing 1 & Thing! We’d love to host!

  13. If you send T1 and T2 to me here in the Twin cities I promise to let them help me cook and I will take them to Hell’s Kitchen with me. If the timing is right I will take them to Cape Cod on our vacation.

I promise to dedicate a week to these guys on the blog and if bribery works I will even send you some homemade peanut butter when I mail them back.

  14. Of course I am in, crazy! I will not bring them in bed with hubby. Promise. ;-) And you know how to find me, right?

  15. This is so awesome! Send them on down to Nashville. There may be fried pickles involved.

  16. would love to have them in ontario! they can come with us to santas summer home on the 45′parallel, maybe if they are lucky they will get their photo taken with ol’ st.nick? we take on a new adventure or two every week and i’m sure those two would love to visit our iconic 40′ muskoka chair.
maybe this will even motivate me to quit being blog-lazy.

  17. Definitely need to see thing 1 and 2 in BC!

  18. christicorbett

Oregon and my own Thing 1 and Thing 2 would love to have them visit!

    Christi Corbett

  19. I’d love to have Thing 1 and Thing 2 come vacay in Virginia! They can help us spend our summer vacation remodeling our bathroom. HA! – Katie

  20. This is incredibly awesome, and I want to be a part of it! It reminds me of Flat Stanley. I will enjoy following their adventures, but I’m sure I’ll be jealous of all the cool people and places they’ll see!

  21. Very cool idea! Hope the Things have fun on thier journey!

  22. Surely they need some exposure to country music? We’d love to have them here in Nash-Vegas. And seeing as my son is a medieval knight, he will protect them well…

  23. I have my own real life Thing 1 and Thing 2 who are currently 13 months old and we would love to play hosts. We life in southern Ontario and while it may not be the most exciting place, we get some beautiful sunsets!

  24. Road-trip to Edmonton! In!

  25. Get their passports ready and send them to Manila. I’ll take them on a jeepney, let them play with the kids at IS Manila and maybe even go shopping at the pearl market. Mail system can be a bit dodgy, but we can work something out, I am sure.

  26. Would thing 1 and thing 2 like to come to Asia? We’d love to host,

  27. Also in Southwestern Ontario, in a tiny, tiny hamlet, but we are prepared to show Thing 1 and Thing 2 a) a bit of country life with Mother Hen and b) some local haunts and local yokels and c) with any luck, some time enjoying the classic car capital of the world in the closest city to our little bittie burg.
There are more ideas, but I wouldn’t want to spoil ALL the suspense!
    Jodi

  28. You guys are the best. Seriously. We’re going to keep the things busy. Can’t wait to live vicariously!

  29. We totally want to have Thing1 and Thing2 in Chi-town…My art student video editing son would love to make a short video featuring them as well….What can we bribe you with to be bumped to first?

  30. If they fancy a trip to the UK I’d be delighted to offer them accommodation. Can’t guarantee a trip to Buckingham Palace, but may make it down to the Pub! (Soft drinks, of course….)

  31. Wow an amazing idea, I’m sure they’d love to see Georgia and go running with me, but afraid my real life thing 1 and 2 (5 yo girls) wouldn’t let them leave. So I’ll watch the adventures from afar.

  32. As much as I’d love to take them to the beach because this sounds like fun, my kids would be brutal on them. My one-year-old bit the face off my CowBoom cow. I was supposed to take pictures of it in various places.

  33. Oh I definitely would like to host Thing 1 and Thing 2! Put me up for a week!

  34. I think that Thing 1 and Thing 2 need to come to SiWC for sure!!

  35. Jennifer Pridmore

Definitely a (Dutch) European adventure! Just think of the windmills I can spin them on, the canals I can drop them in, the raw herring & onions I can feed them! Think of the translation glitches, the cultural crises, the utter rampant silliness of Thing 1 and Thing 2 visiting “new” city walls from the 13th century! Not to mention that their passports REALLY need a foreign postmark other than the U.S. Please, please, please….

  36. Was this inspired by my flat stanley comment on Kelly’s site? :) Very fun! Send them my way. You have the address since I’m getting those cool cards from your giveaway!

  37. I would sign up, but seing as how I’m in boring Calgary as well, there’s not much point ;)

  38. I’d like to host them here in the US, in Maryland to be exact. Things 1 & 2 could join me at work…I work with a team of soldiers and large 15 story tall 60 foot wide satellite dishes, which could make for …interesting pictures. They could come along for walks with my 200 lb dog (yeah, I do everything BIG), as well as visit our famous Inner Harbor and eat some crabs! I don’t blog, but I update my facebook about a zillion times a day, so its almost a blog!

  39. I live in Bavaria, Germany, in a small town called Herzogenaurach. It’s a really beautiful town, close to Nurnberg. I’d love to host both things and show them some of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve ever seen ( that’s if you are into lots of green, open sky and breathable air).
I do have a blog, and I’ll post lots of pictures and stories about “things” if you send them here :)
Oh, and I really like your blog :)

  40. I’d love to host them in Dirty Jersey. They can come backstage at some broadway shows. If they pass through NYC with someone else, I can still set up that photo op!

  41. this is so like the traveling gnome in the movie amelie. love it!
i live in los angeles, which they’ve already visited. but am going to new york and st. louis in september. would love to have them whichever location it ends up being. :)

  43. They would be very welcome here in West Yorkshire, UK. It looks like there are a couple of other interested parties in the UK, so we could host them as part of their European tour. They could go on a Canal Barge trip and perhaps a trip to a stately home might be in order.
I loved Amelie Kristen ;-) There used to be a bear on telly here in the 70′s called Teddy Edward who used to travel around too.

  44. I would LOVE to host Thing 1 and Thing 2 for a week here in India! One week in Kerala, God’s own country (though technically, it’s a state…so it should be God’s own state…), and they could do a lot of stuff:
-learn to cook spicy indian food..so exotic! (Besides, I need someone to tag along with me for cooking class)
-eat as many mangoes as imaginable…I could also throw in some lychees if I can find them..oooh..and coconuts!
-do a whole lot of non-food related sightseeing….like stuff foreigners do when they come to Kerala
    -BEACH!

  45. I am desperately excited about all these opportunities. They’re on their way to Tennessee, now!

  46. I would love to host them here in Ontario Canada :)

  47. Waiting to see Thing 1 and Thing 2′s adventures!!!

  49. Not sure how I missed this up until now, but count me in! We’d be happy to host Thing 1 and Thing 2 for a week!

  50. I’m gonna be studying abroad in Spain for a couple of months and I’d love to host thing 1 and thing 2 sometime while I’m there! They could learn flamenco dancing and see some Picasso, something cool like that. :)

  51. I love thing 1 and thing 2, we just moved to India, it will be fun exploring the new city with them! Please send them across the continent!

  53. I love it! I can’t believe I didn’t see this sooner. Please pencil us in for a visit. There are lots of things to keep Things occupied here in Colorado. We’ll introduce them to all of the pleasures of the Wild West.

  55. How did I miss this post originally? If they’re into country music, they’re always welcome in Nashville, Tennessee.

  56. Pingback: Thing 1 & Thing 2′s Excellent Adventure: Stop 3 = Maryland | Leanne Shirtliffe ~ Ironic Mom

  57. I know they’ve already been to Hollywood, but Thing 1 and Thing 2 are welcome to get another LA fix with us someday. It’ll give them a chance to revisit that nasty little coke habit they picked up during their last visit.

  58. Sorry I’m so late to the party, but just saw Thing 1 & 2′s adventures on Thoughts Appear’s blog and want desperately to host those Things. My kids are wild about those things. Unfortunately, I too am in MD, but in Baltimore, so I could show them the sights here if you want to have them come back through on their way home. I will let you know if I have any cool trips coming up soon and maybe I can take them with me (hubby just went to Singapore last week, shame I didn’t have them then). Let me know, b/c I sure know how to show some things a good time . . . wait.

  59. I saw Thing 1 and Thing 2 have a marvy time with K.B. Owen. They are definitely better than Flat Stanley, who I also hosted for a week. The things can either hang with the Hansens seeing the local sights in Orange County, CA or go to Missouri in September or to Orcas Island next June/July. It really depends on how busy their calendar is. Let me know when their people get back to your people with a good date. :-)

  60. Have the kids been rostered for a round Down Under yet? Because if they haven’t, I’d love to show them the sights of Brisneyland. I’m sure we could have some perfectly hilarious adventures!

  68. It’s been awhile since you have posted on this so I don’t know if Thing 1 and Thing 2 are still traveling. But if they are and would like to come to New Orleans, we are ready for them :)

  76. I have my own Thing 1 and Thing 2. We would love to host your little ones for a week, they can play with my twins and help their daddy cook and go to school with me! (I’m a second grade teacher!). We will also make sure they watch hockey!!! In fact, depending when they can come, maybe they could join us at a Sabres Game (I know it’s not a Canadian team, but it’s the best I can do)…..let me know if they’re interested and I’ll let you know the dates we are going. 78. Send the Things to us! We’d love to see what kind of trouble they can get into… They can surf, swim with dolphins, hang out with Mickey and friends, get eaten by the dog. No, not that last one. All of the other stuff they can do. We’ll keep them away from the homicidal dog, promise.

  83. Don’t judge Texas by that d@uche bag Perry. Send Thang 1 and Thang 2 to the Lone Star state for some cow tipping and BBQ eating. Okay, actually we are vegetarians and there aren’t that many cows in the Austin area, but still… My partner and I have yet to start our family and think it would be good practice if the Thangs came for a visit. Sure, we might give them candy to prevent a total meltdown in the store and follow it up with shot or two of baby benadryl to sleep through the night, but what new parent hasn’t. ;-)

    Hope you pick us!
    -a & c

(And yes, I know I said “thang”. This IS Texas after all.)

  84. Would LOVE to host them is they have any energy left. We live in Amish County (central Pennsylvania) and I can guarantee them a buggy ride!

  87. Hi Leanne! Have your Thing 1 and Thing 2 been to Charleston, SC yet? We would love to have them! In the country they might call them Thang 1and Thang 2. I dunno. But its warm here, great food, history and more. They could travel to the coast, to the point where the Civil War began or another buggy ride! Or meet OUR real life Thing 1 and Thing 2. Here’s the making of OUR Things1 & 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNX9v9tQOuQ …they went Trick or Treating

    Great blog Leanne! ~Andy @ OURLIFEIN3D.COM

  88. I would love to host Thing 1 and Thing 2! I’m sure they would love a trip to the City of Brotherly Love!

  89. If you’re still sending, I’d love to host. They can come to one of my yoga classes. And check out some horses — I’m in the Bluegrass. I’m already having fun trying to think how I can tie pictures into my blog; that will be a challenge!

  90. Thing 1 and 2 must come to visit me in Las Vegas. Ironically, my fiance carries a finger puppet of the philosopher Immanuel Kant and takes random pictures of him. No joke. The Things would fit in nicely and feel right at home, I’m sure!

  91. Pick me, pick me!~ I already commented, asking, before, but I figure it couldn’t hurt to get my name on the list again!

  92. Hi Leanne, Thing 1 & Thing 2 said they wanted to see the California state capital – Sacramento – and we have an extra room for them here. Please book them on the next available flight! I have a potential on “location” photo shoot lined up for them, if the timing works out.

  93. Are Thing 1 & Thing 2 keen for a holiday adventure in a tiny town in South Africa? and yes the Lions are wild, but no, they don’t walk around the town… and yes, we have electricity… and running water . . .

  94. They simply must come to Bragg Creek for a visit. This will be just like hosting my daughter’s kindergarten stuffed toy “Ted E. Bear”. The first thing he got to see at our house was the washing machine.

  95. Hysterical! Going to Fiji June 28-July 7th….I’m picturing a little scuba, horseback riding, and kava drinking!
